Everyone else is entangled in worldly pursuits,

Yet I am consumed with longing for your face.

Thank God I’m spared from obligation to others;

Falling in prostration, I am beholden to your face.

Wherever I, Rahmān, cast my heart;

I have no other ambition than to be a seeker of your face.

Whose sinister face did I see early in the morning?

Since then I haven’t seen your face the whole day long.

God made my face of no account for you;

Unlike other lovers who gaze at each others’ faces.
